Duration: 3 hours
From our property, we will take the southern highway in our vehicle from Km.274 towards the south “Chile Chico”, arriving at Puerto Guadal, a little village that is 9km. away from the hotel. Following the route 5km. more until we find the beginning of the trekking Maqui River waterfalls.
We will pass through forests of the Patagonian Andes, specifically “nothofagus” (ancient trees such as lenga, coigue, ñirre), forests that are home to a variety of birds, like diucones, cometocinos, chincoles, thrushes, chercanes, among others.
We will see a nature spectacle, the first waterfalls that form small natural pools, created by the river bed. From the first waterfall, we can continue forward bordering the pools to see different levels of waterfalls and when we turn around on the way back, we will be surprised by the imposing view of General Carrera Lake, the largest lake in Chile, and the second largest in South America, together with the northern ice fields, the third largest ice field in the world, and on its side San Valentin mountain, the highest mountain in the region, magnet for scientific expeditions that search in its eternal ice for answers to climate changes.
